“Have you had a chance to respond to my draft?” I asked my client. “Didn’t you get my e-mail?” she said. “I sent it last night.” No, I had not. And this was the third or fourth time that week, and not just with this client. Someone was eating my e-mail. I was frustrated, lonely and verging on paranoid. I had been sending messages out, and hearing little or nothing back. Had everyone gone on vacation? Was it something I said? Was it my breath? “This is pretty serious,” said my client, and I agreed.
